Enzyme Immunoassay for the Measurement of Estrone Sulfate in Cryptorchids, Stallions, and Donkeys
نویسندگان
چکیده
The measurement of estrone sulfate, performed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, is a useful and reliable diagnostic alternative test for the detection of cryptorchidism in the horse and donkey. Mean values are provided in this report for 48 known cryptorchid horses, 49 geldings, and six stallions ranging from 1 to 10 years of age. These values show significant differences between geldings and cryptorchids ( p 5 0.0005), cryptorchids and stallions ( p 5 0.01), geldings and stallions ( p 5 0.003) and between horses ,2 years of age ( p 5 0.0003). Impaired estrogen production by Leydig cells of the naturally retained testis in unilaterally cryptorchid boars and stallions.
Estrogen production in vitro was compared for Leydig cells from cryptorchid and scrotal testes in boars and stallions. Animals with natural and experimental cryptorchidism were used. Purified Leydig cells were prepared from testes of mature animals by collagenase treatment and Percoll density gradients. After incubation for 3 hours (1 X 10(6) cells), estrone sulfate and estrone in the media wer...
متن کاملEvaluation of the chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay system for the measurement of testosterone in the serum and whole blood of stallions
Testosterone (T) concentration is a useful indicator of reproductive function in male animals. However, T concentration is not usually measured in veterinary clinics, partly due to the unavailability of reliable and rapid assays for animal samples. In this study, a rapid chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay system (CLEIA system) that was developed for the measurement of T concentration in humans...
متن کاملComparison of Chemical and Surgical Vasectomy on Testicular Activity in Free-roaming Horses (equus Caballus).
Free-roaming horse (Equus caballus) management is a complex issue incorporating social, economic, emotional, political, and environmental factors. Currently, few proven field techniques exist for managing free-roaming horse population growth, which can reach 20-25% annually. Although there are several strategies available for sterilizing mares when managing free-roaming horse populations, surgi...
متن کاملDevelopment and evaluation of a rapid enzyme-immunoassay system for measurement of the urinary concentration of estrone-3-glucuronide in a female giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).
To detect estrus for reproductive management, and to determine the relationship between urinary estrogen and estrous behavior, in a female giant panda, we developed and evaluated a rapid enzyme immunoassay (EIA) system for urinary Estrone-3-glucuronide (E1G) using commercial reagents. The developed EIA system took only around 3 hours, including all procedures to obtain a result. It indicated go...
متن کاملComparison of Enzyme Immunoassay, Immunochromatography, and RNA-Polyacrylamide-Gel Electrophoresis for Diagnosis of Rotavirus Infection in Children with Acute Gastroenteritis
Human rotavirus is a major etiologic agent for infantile diarrhea worldwide. It is responsible for up to 3.3 million deaths per year in children in developing countries. Various rapid and sensitive techniques have been developed to readily diagnose rotavirus gastroenteritis. In the present study, we compared the sensitivity and specificity of immunochromatography and RNA-polyacrylamide-gel elec...
